STELLAR PLAY SCARES OCEAN CITY QUINTET PHILADELPHIA CLUB TRIl'MPHS OVER LOCAL TOSHERS— SCORE ENDS 41 TO 21 ' » _ I The Ocean City Athletic Association I quintet have reason to remember the I overwhelming defeat they received, s practically", at the hands of one man, t at the Temple Hall court on Saturday r night. • , Scott the formidable forward of the v Stj James five, of Philadelphia, ex- f hibited a stellar brand of basketball, ii | w'th nine field goals to his credit. a Besides, _ his passing was exception- s ; ally brilliant, and had the local team completely at his mercy. • > I There is some consotliUoii, however, s the fact that had the visitors not n with them, the decision would 1 probably h^'c been 'different. The St. James five took the lead C from the 'start, and at the end of the A 20 minutes had the score reading h to 10. ,h Towards the final period the Ocean tl City made a fine spurt; but the vis- s retaliated, and maintained a lead which the locals could nnt lower. n Ocean City was outscoreif from the u 20 goals to Scott Adams, tfic f City High School flash, led in p the locals scoring with four double a Moe Weisonthal was credited a with a trio of basket.-, the remaining t two points falling to the credit of Len <1 Murphy and Ross Eerguspn. MEMORABLE EVENT t t Tuckahoe Visited by Six Valley Pqsts — Congress- J man Bacharach and Capt. ' Hickman Talk on Bonus i Tuckahoe was the scene of an en- ' gathering, of the clans on : | Thursday evening, when six Posts of ( American legion answered the a rollcali at the local headquarters. It was manifest that the spirit motivating the assembly, was as pro- , patriotic, as when the boys . marched away, ready if need be to make the suprcm^jacrifice. | It augurs well a the future, that the men who were prepared to die for ( country are as willing now to live , the country, taking an intelligent in all affecting its future welinforming themselves, as never before, in all pertaining its government and policies, pledged to uphold its integrity, and principles upon which the commonwealth was founded, j Since it was his part to fignt for his j country in the time of war, he deems still his duty to fight now in time ; of peace; and has declared himself an

enemy to anything which tends to dishonor its i-aered prestige and traditions, or to hinder its progress. Representatives from the Cape May. Wiidwood, Court House, Woodbine, . Tuckahoe and (Jcean City Post . formed themMves into a parade, 200 strong, at the Tuck&lme headquarters, and inarched to the Town Hall. . It was a' memorable meeting. Price, the cashier of the Tuckahoe Bank, started the fireworks with al speech full of punch and pep, covering an infinite range of subjects. For a moment or so, it .seemed as if Mr, Rice i wounded the susceptibilities of the trod as it were, upon a sort of , sentimental bunion, when he referred 1 , to them as "rough-necks," — ex-servitc are proverbially sensitive of their dlRWty, us well they might be. But ' when the speaker launched into "a ' glowing eulogy to the departed budall was forgotcn and forgiven, 1 and emotions which are inexpressible ' surged through every bosom. Lewis Candy, of Ocean City, de- ' lighted the company with several solos, sung in his Inimitable style, the ' most popular of -which w as "The Old ' Town Hall." The first speake rof tljo evening was 1 : Fred Hickman, of Atlantic City. 1 His main theme was Americanization, 1 incidentally the speaker, as might ' .be expected, passed some comments-' upon .the hurtling question of the' The great war had taught S^s, as ' nothing else could, the vital imfyrtof thoroughly educating the ' in the fundamental principles of true Americanism. Never ' again should it be possible for men ' and women, in the hour of the coun- 1 try's need, to foment treason, anarchy, disruption anil discord. The land which ' had given them refuge, liberty and a : living, should be their first thought. .Cupt. Hickman's address was re- ' ceh-ed with universal approval. The. ■ great surprise of the evening was the unexpected presence of Congressman Bacharach, who had made the i journey from Washington, expressly the purpose of getting in touch with the ex-service men £T Cape May County. .The Hon._ Congressman was given a tremendous ovation from the exdoughboys and gobs. It was a thrilling spectacle, and we are confident Congressman Bacharach will eve.r regard it as the cfiief event of his public career. Above all the ex-dough-boys valued the man who stand* by the guns, faithful to duty, and true to convictions. Speaking upon the subject of the soldiers' bonus, the «pcnker outlined ; the progress of the measure through the legislature, the difficulties encountered in getting the question before the house. The bill passed the house with a vote 333 to 70, and is now lying in the mortuary, of the Senate. While conceiting that the country at the present time is hardly able to greater financial liabilities, the speaker felt that justice should he ijone I® the men, upon .whom the coundepended* for its very existence 1 just a short time past. The soldier had not only risked his life and limb, he had made enormous monetary sacrifices at the call of duty. For a mere pittance, he had' faced nil ' the hardships of the camp and the iConthwd on Zjffalh Pip) THE DARLINGTON 1126 Central Avenue Open May 18 for the Season 1922 ■ Dining room enlarged: running water Rates Furnished upon Applicolkm .MRS.
