TWENTY YEARS AGO The Memorial Day exercise.'', held .in the ocean pi^ at the foot of Ninth street, on Friday afternoon, May 30, twenty years ago, appear to have been an event of ^considerable importance in the tranqutyaltfe of Ocean City. It is announced that the attendance was the largest known at such an oc-j caftan, 'and an ambitious program ofj celebrations had been arranged. Dr. T. C. Hutchinson, commtinder ; of ihe newly organized Ariny audi Navy league, presided. > The orator of the day was the Rev. j John H. Boswell, pastor of the Firstj Methodist Episcopal Church, who .ft-, liveretl n stirring address. The speaker gave an interesting re- ! view of the history surrounding the I two great periods ,of American de- 1 ifiocracy, covered by " the Revolution i and the Ciyil Wars, concldding his impassioned oration with a glowing tribute to the two great heroes of the °\ respective wars. Saturday, May 31st, twenty years ago, a branch of the ladies society, known as an auxiliary to the Patriotic ' Order of the' Sons of America, Was instituted in Ocean City. An initiating team- from Atlantic City attended, accompanied by a large delegation of the mcmbeVs.
