FLAG DAY CELEfiOT^ flTFIRSIM. £. CHURCH PROF. STEV|5 SPEAKS. CONGREGATION IS PRESENTED WITH PRETTY FLAG SOUVENIR , Children's Day Proves \r> Great Success DR. HANDLEY ANNOUNCES IN-j T ERECTING SUGJEfTS FOR SUNDAY SERVICE Sunday was a day of many tri1 umphs and innovations, at the First, Methodist Episcopal Church. Dr. John Handley and his splendid board of officers are ever on the alert, devising new means and methods, to bring the church into *• " closer fellowship with those who have I no church affiliations .and be of great- . er influence and sendee to the com- , munity. Being Children's Day, it was very , fitrinf that then afternoon session, , should be ilevoted exclusively to the children. , The Sunday 'School, under the effi- , * aent and devoted superintendency .of , Hlra m S. Mowrer, and. his excellent , corps of teachers and officers, had , prepared a wonderful program of , •, solos and recitations by the little folk. , The little orators acquited them- . selves so splendidly, it is whispered even Dr. Handley must needs perforce | watch carefully over his laurels; and j that the little singers have made it imperative upon Prof. Harry H. Lake. , and his band of vocalists, to devote , more time to rehearsal, or forever sur- , render their fame and reputatioil, in the city for choral music. One of the most impressive scenes ever witnessed in the church, was the i presentation of nine infants to be (led- 1 icated to the lord. ' 1 The parents both appeared at theji font, and in the presence of the large! a, congregation, took the most solemn vows of parental duty and respensi- ' DOity. i The evening service was in thei = truest sense of the term, a Flag Day celebration. Various methods are, adopted by different organizations to ■ honor the Flag, some of which are far i from worthy of it and -its noble tradi- ' tfons. o Happily, however, the day is past i ih America, when the grand old Flag 1 . may be subjected to the indignity of t being celebrated by a drunken Within the hallowed precincts of the church, with prayer and thanksgiving, j 1 the Flag is honored best JKfn in t prayer, it must be conservetfand per- „ pet ua ted in prayer. , j J The speaker of the occasion was « Prof. James M. Stevens, superin- J ten dent. The address was masterly conceived ■ " ami delivered; a nobler tribute to thai, FTag was never heard from human < Hps. j The tragic scenes of the Revolu- = tionary War, the blood and the* tears, the privation and the suffering, in e (InlrwhMwl by Director Cmb.ll) " ORDINANCE N*. »] CH» ot^Onmm CKr • from ■niiny-w.nih .raSl *Io*< ForGMarotk | C tin* in > fifteen Im wkU alley Wan Cm- 1 b riHraof- ,or "" root j« WHEREAS. rira raid ImprWaranl. war. to it !aits;SlSr:b*™ WHEREAS, th* raid Improvement. were rf.mpl.trd on th* Hth day of May.
