SHILOH BAPTISTS CONTEMPLATING II HEW CHURCH HOME REV. GRANT HARRIS- .MINISTRY MEETING WITH GREAT SUCCESS T'O. TBstor' officers anil congregheto'k of the Shiloh Baptist Church .are seriously contemplating the erection of n new eiiifice, #m| school plant, capable of meeting ami supplying the increasingly heavy ilemamls of the pastorate. The w jrl: ami ministry of Die pastor, Lev. Grant Harris, is meeting with universal appreciation ami approval, anil unparalleled success is attending all his efforts. In the year 1912, the call came to the Rev. Grant Harris, to undertake his mission among the people of his race, residing in Ocean City. At that time the Shiloh Baptists had no church home, anil no organised fellowship. Nothing daunted, Rev. Harris determined to place and e<iuip his private dwelling, as far as possible, for the purpose of a church. The house was located at 726 West Avenue. A few devoted baptists ,to the number of fourteen souls, threw their lot in with Rev. Harris, the fifteen constituting the neucleus of the prosperous and active church, no** under Rev. Harris' Success followed consecrated effort and self-sacrifice, until in the spare of one year after its first meeting. Pastor and people cmharked upon the task of building the first edifice and plant. Just as the work had been completed however, and the edifice was rcaily for dedication, an unfortunate circumstance arose, which severely tested the courage and faith of the strongest. The new plant was hopelessly gutted byfire. In the conflagration Rev. Harris lost all his effects, borne, library, and every garment, besides those in which the family escaped. The members of Ttis flock, still speak with pride of their pastor's courage and fortitude Jn that hour Never did man rise more heroically to meet the exigencies of the occasion, as immediately he set himself to the colossal task of rebuilding, and of shepherding his flock. Plans arid schemes were formulated, the pastor revealing rare executive ability, in addition to the work of his parish, and under* his guidance, the congregation began to remove the debris of disaster, and rebuild their desolated temple. Finally the work was completed, obstacles and obstructions removed, and the second edifice was, with ail proper ceremony, opened

and dedicated to the worship of ^ I It may be said of him as it was ' of another, "preaching is his work, and the parish is his hobby." To I_ the claims of his congregation his L , is utterly devoted, -arid no member L of his raceyhas ever appealed to him for counsel or help in vain. S- * Rev. Grant Harris1 however -is; r more than a pulpiteer. In every movement for advancement of the colored race he i has actively identified himself. j < Fully aware of his handicaps, i '* with which the colored people are > ^ fettered through insufficient edu- ' cation in days past he has endeav- i „ " ored to raise the members of his s ^ •' race into purer and higher stand- r nrds of life anil, conduct. a As a result of this he enjoys' c ls not only, the full and implicit con- r la~ fidence and esteem of his own | s'" congregation but also that of all . ff- members of his race in the city ir- { respective of creed or denomina- j v !r" Church ami Bible School have " >,e increased to the extent, that a third edifice and plant cannot be £ its delayed any longer, a- Larger facilities are weekly be•d, coming more and more necessary, s ce to properly cope with the work as anil the many activities, in which se th« church is interested, o- Rev. Grant Harris, and his u faithful board have been at work, he and are now approximately ready sw and prepared to launch their new be | Venture. us It is the desire of all that the s-e new plant and eiiifice shall be an ^ is' ornament to that thriving section I of the city. — .
