BRILLIANT ARTISTS PERFORM AT KIWANIS N00NDAYJ.UNCHE0N ELMER SCHANTZ CLUB GOLF CHAMPION; IS PRESENTED W ITH PRESIDENT'S CUP - Ocean City Kiwanians were ( privileged nt .their last noonday luncheon, to enjoy one of the very finest violin and pianoforte recit- 1 ills, ever heard outside of a met-;l I ' ropolitan center. Professor Fred Manne, who has ; ( recently become a member of our|f city, and the proprietor-manager j ^ of Ocean City Garage, performed ! upon the violin, and -proved hinr!r I. self an indubitable master of that! wonderful, but capricious instrtr j j » . Seldom indeed is one privileged c to hear a violinist, in whom the ,| requisite qualities of an artist are P * so happily and uniformly inter j, I blended. t; Generally, sentiment in one n i player -is sacrificed to technique, u while in another, in utter devotion '

to the canons of technique, no at-j tention is paid to feeling a«Sl ^ dramatic presentation. Paganini has remained the "f world's ideal violinist, because he combined as no other has, the technique of a Kuhelilc or a Kreisler with the emotional romantism of Saraaete. Prof. Manne contributed three choice selections, belonging to ! three distipct schools of musical : j _ aesthetics. Nevertheless while the i technique was in each case fault- I less. Prof. Manne succeeded admirably in creating and in reprei renting, the peculiar atmosphere - and dramatic appeal, of each sep- ' a rate selection. Prof. Black's three contributions j . were: Fink's charming Pirouttee,

a Ballet. hy Kuben stein, and Victor Herbert's impassioned ballad, en-! I titled "Kiss me again." ' Prof. Black presided at the pianoforte. A young man of a winning personality, there can be j » no doubt entertained but that Prof, c Blade is destined to a place of ' high rank; among .the masters of < his instrument. The mere fact thfct so accurate: a judge of musical talent and gen- ! i ius as Thadeus Rich, has engaged j J Prof. Black, for a series of piano- : • forte recitals during this winter, {i j ' is ample evidence of the artist's j J capabilities. ' Prof. Black's accompaniment to , ; the violirf solo was superb. His'j icndition of the famous Prelude, » j from the pen of the versatile " master of the pianoforte, now on 1 I a visit to America, was scholarly " and impressive; while the equally I popular Hungarian Rhapshody, received at the hands of Prof. Black, * as fine and dramatic a presents- , tion, as it has been our privilege » to hear. J At the ccnciunion of the recital, „ Professors Manne and Black, received from the Kiwanians present, an unmistakable proof of their appreciation, in a rising vote of . thanks. v It transpires that this was the o last noonday luncheon, that would J ho held at the Biscaync Hotel, in- c "much as the popular hostelry, j would close this week for the * winter. President "Bill" voiced the sentiments of all, in the tribute he paid to Mrs. Blundin, the genial hostess; and at the suggestion o* q Dr. John Handle;-, the company ] gave her . also a rising vote of <■ thanks. s- As seen in another column, last J. I Wednesday the members of the * Kiwanis Club, took part in a Golf * Handicap Tournament, for a silver loving cup trophy, to be known as J, the President's Cup. Elmer Schantz was, amid ac- f clmmation, declared to be the Club ' Champion foe the yea- 11)22. and * to him. President "Bill" presented the trophy. a It was explained that' the cup f liecame the possession of a person j who had won it for three years, j In a brief speech full of rare, humor, which provoked round; after round of laughter and applause, Mr. Schantz thanked thej Prudent for the gift, and inciden-| tally threw down a challenge, defy- 1 ing any aspiring golfer, to capture it from him next year. At the call of the President, Dr.| John Handley, gave an interesting j " account of his visit to the Kiwhnis j 4 Club at Portland Maine. • Dr. Handlev emphasized the interest the Kiwanis Club in Port-, land, was manifesting in ail matters of civic import, and the in-! fiuence it exerted in the dvie life1 ; of the city. Another feature of great interest, was the singing of a new song to Ocean City, by President "Bill." A desire had been expressed, that 0o* an City should have a j community song, one that could j ,

be sang upon a.'l public occasion?. Dorsey Andersj-i, who presides at the pianoforte at the noon lunS.cheons of the club, and very materially aids in the singing, is the j author of the catchy refrain which I President "Bill" sang. Written with an easy lltt," balladic in I form, with a swinging F chorus, the song seems destined to become a feature and a "hit", at all social-Ami public functions. BIRTHDAY PARTY AND FAMILY REUNION .. A very interesting party will be : , . given next Saturday, at the home, .[of Mr. and Mrs. Madara of Mar|c Ostensibly it will be a birthday, * I party, celebrating another anniver- r ' sary of two sisters, the daughters ! of Mrs. Madara, but it will as- t , fume the form of a happy family f ; reunion. j, Miss Elizabeth MeNally and q Miss Anna MeNally will be the j, I honored guest* .their birthdays ^ coming conveniently within a few 0 ! day of each other; and no place on T j earth could b« found more pleasarR which to celebrate the event,,0 at the old homestead in the F i midst of friends and family and A under the protecting spirit and G | -"mile* of mother. K

- Elaborate preparations are being - made for thrt occasion, and a memorable time anticipated. ' The guests will include, Poliee f; Officer MeNally, and wife, of f Ocean City jind neice, Miss Mary " ! MAROON AND WHITE e (Continued from Page- Three l h The defeat however may turn riors brought into play all their to a -blessing in disguise. With K the memory lingering in minl! that last year they secured two '• victories, against the Wildwoodi ' aggregation, the local eleven, might, as some suggest, have been a little over confident. ' Defeat invariably lies along that . ; j road. ' The only road to ultimate sue leess. means steady, oeoseienti | team work and regular practice, with careful observtnee of ■ mentor's instructions. Scott. Adams, the blonde quarterback, attempted a spectacular yard end run, in the second but did no succeed in scoring.
