COUNTY FREEHOLDERS INCREASE IRE ROAD APPORTIONMENTS through efforts of FRF.EHOLDER CHADW1CK. OCEAN CITY BENEFITS LARGELY The member* of the Young f Men's Progressive League, heard I I with gratification from County Freeholder W. J. Chadwick, that the Board of County Freholders, hail decided to rebuild the bridge at Thirty-Fourth Street. The County Engineer was instructed to prepare plans and specifications to be submitted for approval December 5th. The rebuilding of this bridge will entail an expenditure of approximately $40,000. At the last meeting of the Coun-
S ty Board, the proposed Road Estimates for the year 1923, came under consideration. |j Through the initiative of FreeJ holder Chadwick, very substantial' S increases were made in the apportionments .made, to be spent upon the roads of this section of the' County, over what was allotted- • t for the present year. The advantages to be gained by Ocean City from the increase can-i • not be approximated. This year the sum devoted to K the upkeep of the lioosevolt Bouled vaYd was $10,000. This, through' -V the efforts of Freeholder Chadwick it has been increased to $25,000 for i, 1923. e Again, the road known as Ocean City-Strathmere. had $4000 i- devoted to it, in the present year's d budget. The new estimates make r provision for an increase of $1500. The total increase therefore, in e which Ocean City will immediately; - benefit, amounts to $10,500. The tentative program for the - coming year is given as follows:

WHAT WAS IT FOR, OR WHY SHOULD IT BET j There is evidently the need of 1 a Sherlock Holmes, in Ocean City. 1 still, would be Conan £ Doyle; 'for In addition to having c created the supernatural solver of 1 mystery, Mr. Sherlock Holmes, Sir a Conan has of recfcnt years, been in s wireless communication with i land of spooks and hobgobb- I and therefore may be the only I competent, to answer the a why and the wherefore, the how I and the whatsoever, of the party a
n, | held Monday evening in the Hann | l- ; Building. t- There were two Howes in the' b, company; but neither could say j t- HOW it about. There was 3. also two Sharps present; but1 neither were SHARP enough to y, 1 solve the mystery. The most searching interrogation failed to elicit, in whose hon- 1 or the party was held, who con- ' ceived the idea, who made the arrangements. In fact some of the r" ; guests were not quite certain, j whether they were present or not. i The entire proceedings had in it more than a trace of "spookness" ; except the "eats," which were not , . the least spooky, nor were the , eaters. Some of the latter were in truth very substantial, and con-' , I trived to conceal very substantial quantities of edibles, about their, person, without using their pock-! eta. Despite the mysteriousness of j •. the affair however, a jollier, and merrier crowd never met Good!. . humor radiated from every coun-;: tenanee. The first part of the evening, , spent with cards, during which ' . several members. of the company,' - ^ displayed unusual "skill. i ( The first prize fell to Mrs. How",ard Bussom, while the "Booby" re-; ward became the possession, by alljl the laws of right, of Charles i Breckley. Cards were followed by dancing. ' j Friend Elwood Lake demonstrated . to the satisfaction of all, his right to be considered the chief exponent of the terpsichorean art present, to the utmost gratification of 1 1 his "Aunt Rosalie." | "Uncle Roy" probably experi- ! enced a pang or two of envy; but I— well there!
