CflPE MAY COUNTY WELL REPRESENTED AT STATE EXHIBIT DR. JULIUS WAY. J. 0. E. ELI.IOTT WERE AMONG THE PRIZE WINNERS The Stale" Horticultural Society hil.it ^fruits ami vegetable! 1 hfl.1 Ha". Atlantic City las! week was the finest held .there •' j„ the Inst four years and the ^t gratifying part is that there »ere m»re Cape May County, exhihitors a fid visitors in the show moms than ever before. ( Among those exhibiting from Cap,. May County were: Dr. Julius Way, Bethel and i'.ichjrtl.siin. •.Vilhelmina E. Powell, of " Cape May Court House, Norman Taylor. J. C. Elliott, Lewis HolT-j^ man nnd Riehanl Reeves of Colrl Spring. John Wilholm of Ocean ' View and Frank Swain of Swain- ! J' In the County class for best 25 ; 1 apples grown in Cape May County * I J. C. Elliott won first place on his Winesaps and Dr. Juilius Way " won second on Staymen Winesaps.; Frank Swain took first on his | ° plate of Ben Davis apples anil j " Bethel and Richardson won second I on Mcintosh apples. These last two mentioned vari- ^ eties were competing with apples ' grown in all parts of the State, but were not competing in the ^ name class. f One of the Interesting developments of the N. J. Experiment R Station Fruit Department is that of finding a substitute for that n awful stuff. Self-boiled Lime-Sul- £ phur. The new mixture can even successfully take the place of the * dilute summer strength lime-sul-phur solution (1 to 501. which is ^ used on apples. The material is sulphur, 16.' pounds, hydruted lime 8 pounds, and calcium casein, 1 pound. All are mixed thoroughly dry and then ^ added to 100 gallons of water in1 the spray tank while the agitator is running. This mixture gave a r better control on scab of peach and apple than did the regular ^ s«lf-boiled lime-sulphur on peaches ^ and the ( 1 to 50) concentrated lime-sulphur solution on apples. Every fruit grower seeing the results heaved a sigh of relief. ^ FREEHOLDERS TAKE i PROGRESSIVE STEP ^ li ESTABLISH AN ACCREDITED F HERD OF CATTLE AT COUNTY FARM Among "other matters of busi- ' i tess taken up by the Almshouse Committee of the Board of Chos- ll en Freeholders, was that of an "Accredited herd of cattle" for " Cape May County. An "Accredited Herd" is one that is free from ' tuberculosis and kept so under the plan prescribed by the State Bureau of Animal Industry at Trenton. Under this plan the State ,f Veterinarian will test free of]S charge any herd bred in the state j ' and condemn all animals reacting s with tuberculosis. Farmers losing I animals as a result of such test I are partly re-embursed by a fund provided for by the State legisla- £ ture and the U. S. Dept. of Agri- I culture. The herd is then kept uft- I der constant supervision to see that new cases do not break out. v The . Almshouse Committee has r the assurance of all the Freehold- c era that this step is a wise and progressive one and have consequently asked Lewis Douglass, j Manager of County Farm, and County Agricultural Agent Stack-; house to take the matter up with ' | the State Bureau of Animal In-; j dustry at Trenton at once. , It is felt that the County Farmi should take the lead in this mat-j ter of improving its dairy herd as an example for other dairies to: follOW. ; ' DR: HUNDLEY PUNS REVIVALJERVICES POPULAR PREACHER TO BE ASSISTED BY CENTENARY EVANGELIST #ian«John Handley pastor of the .(^Methodist Episcopal Church is making full arrangements for holding a series of revival services with the advent of the new year. The first service wiU be held at 9 o'clock in the evening of Deeemi*r 81st, in the form of a watch night service. , . Dr. Handley will be assisted inn these services by the Rev. Richard A. Conover the Centenary Evangelist Rev. Conover comes here highly recommended as a very powerful and impressive preacher. Many of the leading minds in the religious world, are of ,the opinion that America is upon the eve of a great religious revival. Dr. Handley's services may be the awakening of such a revival in the history of Ocean City.

SMITH AND CHADWICK BOTH 1 ■ STAR IN THE DEFEAT OF THE- POSTIES r Two immensely interesting games were staged Saturday cvt cning on the Temple Court, of thej old Camp Grounds, one of which rose eventually to the dignity of a! spectacular event. ^ The giant form of Eddie Miller, [who reaches up towards the jtars, j! six feet two in stocking feet, deported itself in miil-scason style j around the court, rapturing six j baskets, and as many foul tries, n : record which ocntributed in no j small degree to the downfall of the Woodside Athletic^ Association ,;of Bridgeton. I "Kiii'' Garwood's quintette came lout of the conflict with a tally of 37 to 32 in tlieir favor. Miller featured in the luminary | role, and gave as splendid an cx- ' hibtion of real ball, as when he starred as center in the Atlantic City Eastern league aggregation. At first it appeared as if the i artists were doomed to dc-. ' Bridgeton leading with the ' score at 19-14 at half time. Whereupon Ocean City staged a magnificent rally, with Joe Man- j gold. UNDER-PRIVILEDGED ' CHILD AT KIWANIS n 't| (Continued from Page Four) | !"j classified children into nix distinct j "'categories, arranged in the form : of a curve, h On the apex of the curve were 70 per cent normal children, to e the right 12 per cent, slightly doa fective, and below the latter 3 per cent, very defective. To the left h of the apex, were 12 per cent. bright children, and at the exn treme end, corresponding with the r 3 per cent, very defective, another d 8 per cent., very bright. •s Provision was made for the de- ? fective and the very defective n children; but no specific provision !■ was made for the bright and the -• very bright, the children of high mentality, though the future of i- the country very largely depend- ; ed on such. Adopting another method of •- classification, Prof. Stevens divided the children of an average school into the categories, (1) :- The Verbal Minded; (2) The Man1; ual Minded; and (3) The Social Minded. if As a typical example of the first class, the speaker named Woodrow Wilson, of the second class.
