FOBAULD LANG SYNE TWENTY YEARS AGO SAD FATALITY OCCURS WHEN MARIS H. MOORE WAS ELECTROCUTED Twenty Years Ago, one of tlie s-lilest^icciilents in the history of ' Ocean City, occurred on Saturday afternoon, near the hour of -3.30 o'clock, when Maris H. Moore em- 1 , ployed as electrician by the Ocean ( fity Electric Light Company, was ' elntrocuted while working on the top of a pole, on Ocean Avenue ' above Sixth Street. It appears that the wires hail been rut to allow the moving of the houses from the camp ground tract, and Mr. Moore was in the * art of connecting the wires, when the accident occurred. Accompanied by Superintendent Duncan, the deceased went to the scene about 3 o'clock. Mr. Duncan * warned the unfortunate man to lie careful, because the current was usually turned on ubout 3.30 ^ o'clock. Mr. Moore had successfully connected one wire, and was changing his position, in order to better manipulate the remaining one.
when he must have slipped, and fell astride the lower cross-bar, on a live wire conveying about 100 volts. In the act of falling, Mr. Moore threw up his hands, one of which came in contact with •'S* wire, tarrying 1000 volts, thus completing the circuit through his body, which caused instantaneous death. The shock threw the deceased backwards, the body hanging head downward from the cross-bar, until brought down by a ladder. Drs. Abbott, Burt, ami Miller hostened to the scene, but death had taken place. Maris H. Moore was the son of the Mr. and Mrs. Gainer P. Moore. The family came to reside in Ocean City in 1881. Deceased left a widow and three small children, his mother, two sisters and a ' brother, to mourn his departure. Mr. Moore was evidently well known and esteemed in Ocean Qity. He wns a member of the First M. E. Church, and also of the local Masonic Lodge. Interment was made at Palmero ami the deceased was buried with the full Masonic rites, at the | wish of the bereaved widow. i The following Monday evening, ine following Monday evening,
Ocean City Lodge No. 171, F. and 1 A. M., passed and published a resolution of condolence with the family in accordance with the j usual custom. Last week we published a letter in which the writer expressed his pleasure in reading over this column and discovering his name : ' therein as a boy taking part in ' school exercises. j 1 Twenty Years Ago, the Christ-! mas exercises at both the Mctho- 1 ilist and Presbyterian Churches:' were of quite an ambitious character. Glancing over the pro- : grams we find the names of several persons who have since won distinction in several departments of business. The exercises of the Mphodist PROPOSALS ^ For Removal of Rnbbish and Ashes Sealed proposals for the removal of rubbish and ashes in accordance with specifications on file in the office of the City Clerk of the City of Ocean City, will be received by the Board of Commissioners of the City of Ocean City at a meeting to he held on December 26th, 1922 at the hour of three o'clock In the' afternoon, Commissoners' Chaml>er, City Hall, Ninth Street and Asbury Avenue.
