"Doc" Stannard Is Officially Installed President Of The Ocean City Kiwanis Club ■ PAST-PRESIDENI "BILL" COLLISSON TRANSFERS OVER DEED TO Ol.O MAC "DONALD'S FARM. INTERESTING RESUME OF WORK ACCOMPLISHED THRU THE YEAR
With all the impressiveness and i dignity befitting the occasion, | "Doc" Stannard vis duely and of- I ficially installed president of the t Ocean City Kiwanis Club. The member* *ecmed somewhat < at a Joss, what should lie the con- t volitional form of addressing their 1 new president, according to the rite* and usage* of the Kiwani* t creed. Some addressed him as t President "Doc," while others i chose to say President "MinoL" One Kiwanian hail the temerity to r refer to the president as the o •Tooth Carpenter"; but adopted a a less familiar tone, when he caught r . a glimpse of lambent fire in the * president's eye, and the manner in ( which he grasped the gaveL e President "Minot!' had announced in hi* circular letter, that he', would deliver upon the occasion I of hi* installation, a speech "five 1 1 yard* long." It cannot be determined how long the actual speech was delivered; nevertheless It was1 of so interesting a character, that it is hardly possible that any person would have objected, had it T been continued to the length intimated. Past-President "Bill" Collisson performed the ceremony of installation, prefacing the charge to the C new president, by thanking the a members of the Kiwanis Club for ir their loyalty to him, and their o hearty co-operation during his , tl year of office. The year had been p one of great activity and many a: achievement*. v Among the numerous movements with Which the Kiwanis _ Club had identified itself Past-. President Collisson mentioned, the p Booster Banquet in Philailelphia, t the Tree Planting on Arbor Day, |i the observance of Canadian Day I the Charter Presentation, the en- t (ertainmcnt of the veterans of the j Civil War, and later of the Veter- ; an* of the World Wnr. He refer- 'i red also to the support the Kiwan- ; I is Club had rendered to the Sea- J : shore Home for Babies, the float Jj it has provided for, participation, i hi the Atlantic -City Pageant, and | the part it had taken in the ceie- f hratinn, held to commemorate the ( opening of the Automobile Bridge. Finally, Past President "Bill" £ mentioned of the famous poki-r game in Tuckerton, and won a f ringing round of applause. In presohting his successor with j, with the president's button, and , president counselled him to use it ; with charity, and kindness to all. * He presented him then with the h president's button, and finally with { the deed to Old MacDonald's Farm. It was evident that the past- i president, relinquished this memorable document., with much re- ■ gret. Happily however, a very ( close friendship exists between the • old and the new incumbents of the historic fiinn, ci»scqueiitly it may , lie anticipated that the pnst-pres- ■ ident will frequently lead the Kiwaniai.s down to visit the turkeys. ' i he old lord,- and tile .StiU Old - MacDonal.l licqueathed to the club. Returning the compliments and ' fuvors, the new president pinned • on the coat of his predecessor, the past-president's button, and hand- j ci I him a baton which iffknified he had been appointed fnng-leadcr of . the Kiwanis Club. Vice-President A. Randolph . Fogg, Treasurer Russell 11. Nulty. ; Director* Simms and Pettil, and1 • Secretary Dittrich also spoke pledging .loyal support to the new administration. It transpired that Kiwanian j Raymond had recently visited the Kiwaoi* Club at Charlotte. At the request of the president. Kiwanian Raymond gave n l.ricf, but very tnrtling ncount of the rlub, an<l of the luncheon he attended. The Charlotte cfub, he declared , was constituted of the very finest , company of men he had ever seen, for every one of them was a democrat. The retiring- president and see-, J-
1 retary were both presented with , gold watches, doubtless l«cause • they had done something to dei It. This however he added, in favor : of Ocean City's club, as singer- ■ they far excelled over their fel- ■ Jow-Kiwanians in Charlotte. The various com pi it tees renderi ed brief reports of the year's aci tivities, and high tributes were i paid to the iioard of directors. Through the entire year, the di-! i rectors had attended to the duties i i of their office, in the most frank ' , and loyal manner, and to therr.; much of the credit for the success which had attended the Kiwanis during the first year if it* FOR AULD LANG SYHE TWENTY YEARS AGO OCEAN CITY ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION ORGANIZED.
