FOR AULD LANG SYNE; IWENTY YEARS AGO ; I IRK COMPANY NO. I ATTEND . IN BODY. SERVICE AT j PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH Twenty Years Ago, the memibcrx ' liers of the Ocean City Fire Coni-(i-i 1) No. 1, uniformed, attejnleil -J in -i the evening service at ' the Presbyterian Church. 1 .-The pastor. Rev. A. W. Wil- t liains, delivered a very instructive 1 ami interesting discourse befitting t the occasion. c An augmented < hoir presented a " -plendid program of music, de- * ighling the congregation which filled the auditorium to its utmost d capacity. Rev. Williams, taking jas the basis of his discourse, the i' story of the Fiery Furnace, of Ne- e huchadnezzar, presented a glowing picture of courage, heroism, 1 and fidelity to duty, the three vir-'w tues which are most conspicuously o icvealeil in the work of a fireman, n It would seem that Twenty e Years Ago, the problems which confronted the city were very sim- A ilar to those of the present day. p A speciu! meeting, of the Board s, of Trade was held, with It. W. Ed- K wards presiding. The chief subject of deliberation ci was, how to best advertise Ocean City, and Incidentally how to raise sufficient money for that purpose. Evidently un old problem, ami a perpetual problem. It was decided that a circular letter should be sent to all prop- d crty owners, both resident and '< summer visitors, soliciting sub- * scriptions, with the pledge that * "The Boanl of Trade, as a body, composed of many of our repre- ti senUtive citizens, will stand res- t ponsible for the faithful and ju- » dicious expenditure of the advertising fund." Approximately <330 was sub- d scribed by the members of the I Boanl, present at the meeting. h It was further understood that « the subscriptions would be solicit- b ed upon the understanding that the P City Council would unite with the Board of Tra.le in making an ap- « propriation, presumably equivalent r fur advertising purposes out of the revenues of the city. S Twenty Years Ago, Ocean City a Basket-ball team met with a \ crushing defeat at the hands of „ five performers hailing from Ham- j monton. t The Kame was played in connec- r tion with the South Jersey League, r and was the first since the Ocean City Athletic Association had se- ^ cured the management of affairs. s From beginning to end, the % home team was hopelessly out- „ classed by the invaders, the Jocal • artists confessing that their rivals f were "marvels." t Schurch played a splendid game ( for his team, as did O. Morey. t The line-up and summary is , Report of the Condition of 1 "Ocean City Title & Trust Co. 'f o> Ocean City, N. J. at the ( close of business, Dec. 29, 1923. G0SSAB00N TAKES! I TAKES THE TURKEY IN LEGION SHOOT -URGE THAT A. SHOOT BE HELD WEEKLY ( BY LOCAL POST , To all intents and purposes, the f trapshoot held Saturday afternoon ' under the auspices of the Morgan- 1 Post of the American I .eg- 1 ion, was an unqualified success. J Quite a record number of gunsmen participated, several of whom from Atlantic City. The latter in particular were | enthusiastic about holding a : trapshoot weekly, or at the most ] every second Saturday, a . proposition which the members of t the Morgan-Ranck Post are said to < be likely to consider favorably. A weekly or bi-weekly event of , .- character would unquestion- j 1 .ably prove an interesting form of't and recreation during j the winter. f Quite a large number of specta- _> tors lined the Boardwalk, watch- i ing the various events. ; t The major context of the shoot : ' a Twenty-five Bird Event with ' turkeys as prizes. The following contains a full ; ' roster of the contestants and their < respective records out of a possible ! twenty-five: 1 . Cossaboon 23 Young of A. C 22 ! Montgomery 20 riV. The abovo competitors in this; event were classified upon a basis of 50%, 75% and 100%. In Class A. L. Cossaboon captured the turkey. In Class B, 4 1 tied. In the shoot -off miss and outj : L. Ray was the winner. Class . 1 C, found six tied. In the shoot-off miss ami out, Capt. A. R. Smith carried off the honors. Event 2, was for ten birds, with 1 ducks as prizes. Twenty com1 pe titers entered. The final result found W. L. Ray winner of the ' first prize with 9 out of 10 to his credit. Roy Bourgeois carried off sec- . ond honors and a duck. In addition two five bin! events < were staged, in both of which L. i Cossaboon carried off the prizes. , The trapshoot was conducted by . members of the Morgan-Ranck ; Post, with Walter E. Allen acting , as official scorer. ■ Wallace and Sons, hardware . merchants, supplied both shells, and the blue-rocks, at cost price, a fact which undoubtedly eontrib-; uteil much to the success -of the shoot.
