Lieut. Milsom Prinhipal Orator At A Grand Rally Of American Legionaires MBS. HARRY A. MORRIS, ON BKHALF OF WOMEN'S AUXILIARY j ' PRESENTS LOCAL POST WITH CHECK FOR $430 TOWARDS 1 BUILDING OF HOME. CHAIRM AN WINTERBOTTOM TALK -
One of the most enthusiastic and impressive meetings, ever held under the auspice- of the M organ - Ranch Post of the American legion, occupied the evening of : Thursday, February 1st, in the Hahn Building. Ostensibly the meeting was called as a public recognition to the members of the Women's Auxiliary, for the yoeman service they were rendering to the local Post. Anil H^it added, never were honors more richly ' deserved, .or public recognition more fully merited. , it would not lie correct in this instance to use the conventional phrase, and say the Women's Auxiliary is behind the Post in ail its efforts, to advance its fortunes in the community; rather it should be said, the Women's Auxiliary is always to the fore, in all activities, ami setting the pace at a noble stride. Thus it transpired at this last meeting. The honor conferred by the Post upon the Auxiliary was fully equally by the honor confer red on the Post by the Auxiliary, < in the person of Mrs. Harry A. Morris. Post Commander Dr. W. P. Haines i presided over the meeting, with all his eurtordary ability and grace. I The first items, following a se- < lection by the orchestra, were two ' selections rendered in splendid t form, by a male quartet consisting ' of Messrs. W. H. Collisson, Jr.,Russell H. Nulty, Clinton Low'den * ar.il Walter Sherman. j This, excellent combination of vo- v ealists delighted the audience with i "The Bells of St. Mary," and a f pleasing arrangement of Balfe'sjt popular ballad "Then You'll 'Re-'c member Me." 1 f The first speaker of the evening d wa* County Chairman Winterbot- h torn of WUdwood. Mr. Winterbot- , tora's message took the form of an c instructive resume nf the origin of a the American Legion, and of its re- 1 " markable growth within the few s years of its existence. is At tiie present time, the Amerjd lean Legion consists of 1 1 ,000 : Posts, with 80 department", scat- il tered throughout every state in » the Union. u The Women's Auxiliary division,, a consists of 4,000 units, with a membership* exceeding 200 000 a The membership of the Legion has e. mounted upwards, and is fast ap- e:

I tl n- In the State of New Jersey, the, e- organization had not maile the n of , progress it should, the state rank-, jit le ing forty-sixth in point of member- h, ship. Recent efforts however, had ti J- done much to remedy this ilefect, te to the end that New Jersey ranks w I- thirty-sixth in camparison with *• lyj other States. The two great planks in the G e platform of the Legion, Mr. Win- hi >r terbottom said, were reconstruc- le r tion and rehabilitation, in the.er work of rehabilitation. New Jersey el is ranks first among the States of il the Union, with six homes for the st i- care of the disabled, and another th s to be established at Port Elizabeth se n for which the Legion recently paid cr e the sum of 88,000. ut I- Mrs. Roger Williams was then i, heard, in a delightful rendition of lii e Wilfred Sanderson's popular song fx entitled, "Until." Responding to pi t an enthusiastic encore, Mrs. Wily Hums contributed an amusing se- se s lection in splendid voice. de Prof. Elmer E. L'nger, physical -, director of public schools, accumu- or ,. lated quite a collection of fresh Ni laurels, with his exhibition of mag- "C s ic and legerdemain. As long as ev I Prof. L'nger retains the gift of eh producing delicious candy, to be A. - distributed among the audience, by At > merely burning a handful of cntI lint, his popularity with an of ; audience will never wane. eh ,- The performance with the ring- -h. i a decidedly clever feat of while the case with ■ | which the athletic magician made a Be i ; glass of water leap through space ; from one table to another, *ugge.«-~ i led supernatural power. In re- 65. for an encore, Mr. Gaudy j | sang, "In my Home Town," and — drew down the house.
