DOTC. WESTON'S UNIQUE EXPERIENCE FISHING IN SURE i LARGE WEAKFISH GIVES BAT- ° TI.E FOR TWENTY MINUTES a BEFORE LANDED £ Fishermen are of course allowed C a certain degree of latitude ami exa mte ration in tela tine their flah t| !* ■ atones, and tlie Recording Angel ( ia tartily mipposed to display con- , aide rahlo indulgence while transcribing the facts. I>r. E. C. Weston - unique e\perienre-. met with while fi-hing n in the surf almost immediately liefore hU store on the Boardwalk. , were witnessed however by an au- n dienre numbering several hundred people, who are ready to vouch for statements. . The day's catch included the fol- > tewing: Weakfish. 8 pounds, « «*-*, h weakfish, 6 pounds. 4 ois., weakfish 6 pounds, weakfish 4 pounds, weak tl fish, 3 pounds, 8 ox*., kingfish. S-t 0 """The largest of the weakfish was , evidently a hero of many fights, .ml immediately gave battle for a period of twenty minutes before he was finally landed. On the other hand, the five pound follow must have l>een a voracious i, rascal, for when ultimately broucht u to rhnre it was discovered that H both hooks were lodged securely in his internals. The element of the exiraordinarv in the feat however was the tackle used. In all probability Dr. Weston' , experience constitutes a roeord for these waters, beeatif the tackle. line, and rod used, are the kind used in Florida waters.; and at the Catalina Islands in California. These are known as the light . tackle class, ami are rarely if ever , used for surf fishing in northern t waters. The liny was a six thread Cutty- I hunk, of unusual quality, with a : breaking strength of seventeen . pounds. A Catalina rod. with a i t Neptune reel, and a SrO O'Shawne- , f*y hook. Even after making all allowance i for the fact that Dr. Weston is a veteran angler, well verse.! in all ; the arts of the craft, it was an unique feat accomplished with so; light a tackle. Dr. Weston Is the well known proprietor of the Fi..hing Tackle ' establishment on the Boardwalk.; to whom all disciples of old Isaae resort when they need expert coun- ,
set and advice. COMMUNICATED : Editor Sentinel :— I sat on the Boardwalk this i 1 evening, July 1. with friends, andjjj we all remarked about the lovely 1 pople that strolled by. Everybody) refined. Nowobdy rowdy. Nobody ] f gaudy. Just home folk — men with 1 1 • J their families — lovely girls with n L ' thuir manly sweet hears — children, t ( ao fine, the superior of whom could ,■ not be found nowhere else— crowds ■J of young men. tall, straight, intel-; _ ■ I i gent, with clean countenances. A • r 1 boardwalk full of people to be proud of. Why have we these people? ^ — - Why don't they go to someSthcr j resort? We all know- why. Because Ocean City tries to obey God's lawregarding "Remember the Sabliath Day to keep it holy," etc., and because we are a temperance town, I not by compulsion, but from choice Ocean City has a vital question to settle. Does she want an open Sunday with crowds, or a closed Sunday with quality? If she has an open Sunday, she can fill her boardwalk and rent her stores to people that will lower the "quality" of our lovely town, if they get the upper hand. I say. Ocean City has a vital; question to settle. If she wants to ' drive tlm refined class away, just . open all the stores on Sunday. "You know who well get." In the neighborhood in which I ; live, I could not pick out one un■lesirable. Let us hope tlie "powers that I*" in their natural desire to please, will not lose sight of this fact: "Quality is better than quantity evury time, and if the powers stand j pat for the preservation of the Suad aylaws. Ocean City will even tumlly get a crowd anyhow, and it will be a crowd to* be proud »r. There is nothing that attracts so much as the unusual Tlierefore, being unusual. Ocean City will attract the crowd. RESIDENT. MISS ADAMS HAS BIRTHDAY PARTY Last week Miss Isabella Adams, daughter of Mr and Mrs. Raymond Adams celebrated her first birthday anniversary.
