CENTRAL OCEAN CITY PINOCLER'S BEGIN SEASON'S GAMES GROCERY STORK, 31 Ht AND AS$UBY, SCENE OF MUCH FUN AND ANIMATION 1 No club ever opened up its doors I with more pep than did the Pinocle J Club of the 31th Street Section on last Thursday evening. Different times people summer- 1 ing in the section have been heard . to say, "My, but how in the world do you stand it in the winter, it must be awful lonesome." They don't stop to realize that the people here arc too busy in the summer lime to have a great deal of pleasure, but. after the summer crowd goes, then the natives in the section begin to sit up' and take notice, ami during this long; dragged out winter, when our city cousins are feeling so sorry, for this 1 poor bunch of hayshukers, the country cousins are too busy stepin'l out ami enjoying themselves with] parties and pinocle thai they haven't time to wonder what their city cousins are doing. Moral — You can never- tell from where you sit how the picture will turn out.

The grocery store on the comer (,f 3lst Street and Asbury Avenue was turned over to the club members, and a day was spent moving out counters und show cases, so that when everything was complete, a real size hall was realized. Some of the summer people are1 ' still hanging on, and due to the fact of their having such a wonderful time at the club have decided to remain here all winter. Two prizes were given to the lady and gent having the largest number of points in seven games played progressive. Mrs. Wm. S. Kdgar, one of our old standbys, ami Uncle Chris Hansen, were the winners. Uncle Chris won a new deck of cards a few weeks ago, so evidently he has been using Ahem fori practice during his idle hours.; Both had scores over 700, so they can't be hated for winning.

After the card playing, some of the members did a "Two Step" with the broom, and- dancing concluded the evening's pleasure.! Music for dancing was furnished by Paul Whitman and Benson Or- 1 chestras— -Victor records. A large wood fire fit for a weeny ! roast kept everybody warm, especially those at tables 3 and G, which were each side of the stove. It kept all hands busy fighting to keep away from these two tablest: and when any of the girls sat in, these positions you could smell roast chicken. The neighborhood electric curling . iron was kept warmed up by the girls with bobbed hair, and early in the evening all the gents were seen washing up their rubber collars. So taking things as a ; whole, the occasion was fit for the I Ritx-Carlton.

The officers are Raymond J. Edgar, president, and Mrs. Edgar F. Berger, secretary and treasurer. Among the members arc: Mr. and Mrs. Edgar ,F. Berger, Mr. and Mrs. John Berger, Kelsie Berger, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Edgar, Mrs. Davis, Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Edgar, -Mr. and Mrs. George Gaffney, Mr. and Mrs. Bel ford Collins, Mr, Chris Hansen, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. P. Clark, Mr. and Mrs. Tutthill, Mr. and Mrs, Albert Dunham, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Dunham, Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Dunham, Mr. and Mrs. James Dunham/ Mr.- and Mrs. Albert Horner, Mrs. Harry Shore, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Powell, Arthur Powell, Mr. and Mrs, Wilson Monahan, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Hall, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hayes.

CELEBRATES BIRTHDAY Miss Elizabeth Young, of 5D5 North Street, recently attained to ber ninth birthday. The auspicious event was celebrated in proper ftyle by the young lady entertaining a party of young friends. A most enjoyable evening was spent, with music and games. Miss Young is considered a remarkably promising young lady, a very able elocutionist, and gifted in reciting Bible stories.

I THREE HUNDRED UNO SIXTY PEOPLE DINE ON LEGION TURKEY ] later in evening ladies' auxiliary feed county commerce chamber

0 . , * V The supper served on Thursday - by the Ladies' Auxiliary of the American lx-^ion, proved one of ' cither that the people s of Ocean City have a passion for ' , ,CY». or that the culinary skill of the ladies jg far above the ordinary. - Allowing for the fuel thut the > Morgan-Ranck Post is extremely • popular, and enjoys the esteerti and . confidence of the public, this of it- , self is hardly sufficient to account for the large attendance at the Turkey Supper, Thursday, at the bust Presbyterian Church.

At any rate, flilly three hundred and sixty people were fed at the supper tables, and each guest received his or her plenty from a rich and diversified menu, with something in it to please all palates. The service was excellent, the cuisine faultless, and all spoke highly of the courtesy and consideration shown them by those who attended at the tables. A number of the members of the post rendered valuable service throughout the evening. The proceeds of the supper will be devoted < mainly towards the building fund, > jthat is gradually growing towards j securing a permanent Legion i home.

r Later in the evening the Ladies' * Auxiliary served a delicious and ; hberal lunch to the members of the .' County Chamber of Commerce. , Fully a hundred and twenty-five , j persons enjoye dthc hospitality ex- : tended them, and the tempting ; viands. - The cost of providing the lunch • j will be defrayed by the city, the | local Chamber of Commerce, "and the Progressive League, jointly. But to the ladies of the auxiliary • belongs the credit for making all1 preparations, and serving it in the pleasing manner done. The visitors departed all delighted with the reception and the pleasant evening they had spent

Americanized Judkson had come to the United States with the, firm resolve to make this his country; to study our talk and ways of doing things; and to become a real American as soon as possible. Smilingly he greeted a fellow- worker one morning, asking how he felt. "Feel fine—outta sight," was the reply. Next morning he met a fellow countryman on the street, who, in greeting, as him how he felt. x "Feel swill. You can't see me." .
