HIGH STEPPER r v, ' How would you, kind reader,, like to hop buck and forth from business on one of these "threestory"' pogo sticks, the invention of a certain Mr. Gordon, of Los Angeles, California. He believes it j won't be long before people^in his; home city take to the innovation! anil, once they're started, the rest of the country will follow suit. No. thanks. Not for us. We admit Mr. Gordon's elevated pogo! stick may be the means of saving* shoe leather, but we'd hate to think of what would happen to our anatomy should the darn thing decide to part company with our feet while we were perched on its uppermost level. We're afraid we'd meet the pavement face to face too many times to find any pleasure in the scheme. How about It? !

Stealthily, and with the genera! demeanor of men who revel v in desperate deeds, they galloped V across the prairie lands, bound ti from the local ranch, where they j {arrived after sundown on Friday. The purpose of their coming then 1 became known. It appears that a : Rough Rider had, while scouring n ! the plains some twelve miles away,! r I espied an innocent tenderfoot. Like a flash of lightning, the rider's I lasso flew in serpentine coils through the air, and the tenderfoot ' for himself l>eing led back to the j ranch. % In the mysterious manner pecul- t iar to the Rough Riders, the word a passed along from ranch to ranch. Implements of torture were); brought out of secret places, and : with whoops and veils, and the \ j rapid detonation of their deadly ? i l;7s, the roughianlv riders prepared , | to run the tenderfoot down the : thorny trail leading into the Valley j of 'the Scented Skull. The tenderfoot, however, proved j himself to be a man of true courtage and grit, "taking all that was coming to him" with gritted teeth j and a smile. Unfortunately for him, however, , he appeared to be inclined to dance a fox trot when he came to the "Enchanted Carpet," and to dislike the touch of the fiery serpent , crawling underneath. Finally, he did cross, and was duly received into the fellowship of
