OR. JOHN HANDLEY UNO SUPI. MOWRER ARE HONORED CHRISTMAS KXKRUSES UKj FORK AUDIENCE FILLING THE AUDITORIUM j Dr. John Hundley, and Hiram S. j Mowrer, pastor and .school superin- | tendent of the First M. E. Church, were signally honored on Friday evening at the school Christmas • exercises. Dr. John Hundley was presented : with a very handsome leather traveling i use, while Mr. Mowrer was j made the happy recipient of a very 1 beautiful gold watch. For several years past, Mr. Mowrer has filled the office of ; superintendent with infinite credit 'to himself, and to the advantage of the school. Under his able leadership the school has increased , i greatly in numbers, and become | one of the best organized in the city. The gifts were made t«> Dr. Hundley and Mr. Mowrer as a small recognition of their valued services, and as a token of sincere! esteem. Both gentlemen responded to the presentation in brief addresses, laboring under considerable emotion. The program of the evening was an amusing and well-rendered playlet, entitled, "Her Christmas Hat." The work throughout abounds with pleasing situations, and closes with a good and appropriate moral. The members of the cast included: Miss Ethel Lee, Miss Catherine Harris, Miss Lillian McClure, Florence Way, Mrs. Smith, Howard Barrett, Ira Vincent, Herbert Wilkes, and Samuel Way. An audience which crowded every inch of available seating space greeted the efforts of the performers with loud applause. The superintendents of the primary, junior, and intermediate departments were also remembered with valuable gifts. ^ - Following the exercises, candy, oranges and apples were distributed around, and the usual exchange of presents.

Itree of balloons presented or. bock J JUVENILE ('HOIK CIVIC FINE CHRISTMAS CANTATA. JOHNNY DOUBTER Santa Ciaus presented Dr. Buck, pastor of the First Baptist Church, on Friduy evening with an unique • Christmas gift. To the rear of the platform upon • ! which the choir of the Sunday '' School rendered a charming Christ- * mas cantata, Stood a large Christina- adorned with a nr.. l'.'.i *|of toy balloons. Comment: were "j heard among the audience concern- ' i ing the unusual character of these decorations, and some curiosity was aroused obviously. ; % At the conclusion of the exercises, however, Santa presented the ; | tree and its toy balloons to Dr. j ; Buck, and immediately the secret leaked out. Each balloon, of I which there were many, contained u greenback, a small token of j esteem from the church and school 1 1 to the pastor. I . The program rendere d by the • ; j choir and children was one of many | < merits. Under the direction of | • Mrs. A. Randolph Fogg and Miss ] ; Heiss, the performers did well f i without a single exception. The cantata, entitled, "Johnny; Doubter," is a most suitable work1 for the occasion, full of tuneful; music, and amusing dialogue. The plot revolves around a little fellow, of a somewhat skeptical turn of; mi rid, who did not believe in the; existence of a Santa Claus. Various expedients were adopted to cure hi< unbelief, but nothing succeeded until Santa appeared in person. "Johnny Doubter" then crowned him king of the festivities, j Following the program, boxes of : candy, oranges and apples were then distributed around. Classes presented their teacher with some small gift, anil the teachers pro- *: sentod their scholars. An offering: was taken to be sent to the Children's Home, at Trenton, iri accord- i ance with a custom which has ob-j i taincd in the church for many years past. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Marshall' are spending the Xmus holidays; with Mr. and Mrs. Wm. G. Abbott, j of this city. Mrs. Marshall expects; to go to California in Junuary. j Mr. Marshall will remain here.
