REPORT. \ iba Itle City is locals! on tbe AtUw tic (Avar, «m Ludlam Island, v.n th4 tx>asl of Sen Jcr^y, 2T 27' N. Ultihidr, and 7f* 4T E. longitude, CO mile* southeast fioxn I'liiladrlphis, and C4| milea by rail. It m 18 milis nortli -aaut from 1 t*i« May, and about il»e iias di»- t Unco from Allan He City. Tho mean Irmjx-rature e»f lordlstn g (•land doe* not vary much from that af J Atlantic City, which is 62* L Tlio humidity of tho atmosphere if * similar to that ol Atlantic City, being equally dry and sal ubrions. It is will £ located for belli a winter and surnmsr resort, on account of its climatic adtai> U^e*. The Island it fi} miles in length, and varies from i to 11 miles In width, exlending from Corson's Inlet, en the nfirth, to Townscnd's Inlet, cn lb# south, and is surrounded by the Allanlie Ocean, I.udlrni Ray and a navagaljo channel called the '1 borougLfare, furnishing excellent advantages foe fi«bing, sailing and Stillwater lathing. - — A beach 1&0 feet wide extends tho entire length of the !*l*nd. gently shelving, of very hard. cln»e-|>*rkr*] sand, affording a fine natural drive for more than 6 miles,* aud unusual facilities for walking and Lathing, which air not excelled, by any watering place on the coast. In walking, or driving, Indentation is made upon the aand, affording, in this rr»pecl, a striking contrast to many other Leaches, where the sand is loose and treacherous. The advrntagc* the beach afl'rrd* foi bathing, are excellent, there being no under-low perceptible, and in tbia inspect peculiar. The- bottom descends so gradually, that shallow water extends a great distance frcm the shore. In bathing, no ropes ore required, ami it i* safe for women and children, h is lufficiently north of Rclswnre Bay lo t>e entirely free frcm the mud of the bay, ir.d bathing can alnays be bad in dean, clear nuter. The "fast land" of the Island consists of low hills and ridges, with level por* ;ion> of sand, which are fuund by actual survey to vary from 2 leet to 27 feet* the highest in elev alien, above high water. The meadow lends are nevee even flowed by high water, except by storm tide*, which are of rare occurrence. The abundance of game and fish in the vicinity has made the Island foe years a favorite resort of sportsmen. The inland lay, known su LuUDrn Bay, afiords sate still-wulcr bathing, having a gently shelving shore, and also safe yachting, and abound* In fi«h, oysters, era l>«, clams, Ac. One portion af it is only 1200 feet from the see beach, so that on one side suri-bething can be had. and u^on the other aide still-waier lathing. The ailc selected for Sea Isle City i« on llin northern half of the Island; extending to the centre and then southwardly. It will have a frontage on the .Mian tic of three miles, and extend Inland to Ludlam Bay and the Thoroughfare, •long which It is practicable, an<T it is proposed to lay out and construct a carriage drive for the distance of more than two miles. It h nroj»o.«ed to protect the Cits from high tide, by a substantial sea wall on the two sides most exposed, and by emlawkments on the remaining sides, which can be done at a moderate expense, considering the economical and other advantage*. Absolute security will thus be obtained against enrmachments by the sea, that have occasioned much damage at Cape May, Atlantic City, Monmouth Beach, Manhattan Beach, and other place*. No other seaside report at the pre*enl time, has the protection that ^s proposed for this place. The Island is uninhabited; there being no houses on it except two Government Stations, and no ceea-pool*; the way is clear for carrying into operatson a thorough system of sanitarv regulation ; such as you propose under the supervision or an clficienl and exj>erienced sanitary engineer. The Island can be veiy easily connected with the West Jersey R. K., by a short branch mad from 4} lo 5 miles in lencth, there Wing hut a nam>w Thoroughfare to en*** with a bridge. A Government Light -hr»a*e should bs established on this Island, aa numerous wrecks her* occurred on it, and by a little ex;»ense on the part of government in the construction of jetties, two excellent hartora eati be established on the north and south end* of tha Island, •I Corson'* and Tow*s« nd's 1 Inlets, which would become important commercial points by connection with rw'b road, and a aafe refuge for vessels In •tonus. The plan upon which you propose to lay out tho (ily I* calculated to subserve the purpoeea of convenience, health and beauty. With proper railroad facilities, and lots offered at a reasonable price, 1 do not aee why thla place should not become as great a rr*ort as Atlantic flit, by reason of Ha proximity lo Philadelphia, and the ehareeier of the l-oach. • And when the eanitary question ts ' taken into row sh* Hat ion, a place o( •ven greater resort. The Weet Jersey Railroad can make the same time to Sea lde GRy. frees Philadelphia, as to Atlantic City. # ReepectAiRy,
