Th* humidity of :ha stmoaphrvo a aimilar to that of Atlantic City, being squally dry and sal obvious. It ia wv-li located for both a winter and sutnmsf retort, ol account of its climatic odvnnlogsa. Ths Island is 61 miles tn length, and vans* from 4 to lj miles in width, extending from Corson * Inlet, on the north, to Townaend'* Inlet, on- tie south, and ia surrounded kg the Allanlie Ocean, Ludlam Bay and a netsgaUe channel called lbs 7 borough far*, furnishing excellent advantage* for fishing, sailing and oti'Jwater bathing. A beach 150 fert wide extends the entire length of the Island, gently shelving, of very herd, dose- forked •and, affording a fine natural drift for more than 6 miles, and urinous! facilities for walking and bathing, which are not excelled, by any wate ring piece on the coast. In walking, or driving, indentation is made upon the asnd, 1 affording, in this respect, a striking contrast to many other beaches, whets the sand is louee and treacherous. Ths advantages the brarh affords Cos bathing, are excellent, there being no under -tow perceptible, and in this respect peculiar. The bottom descends so gradually, thkt shallow water extend*- a great distance from the shore, hi bathing, no ropes are required, und it Is safe for women and children. It h efficiently north of Delaware Bay to be entirely free from the mud of the bay, snd bathing can always be bad in dean, dear water. The "fast land" of the Island consists of low hills and ridges, with level poeI ions of sand, which are found by actual surrey to vary from 3 teet to 37 feet, the highest in elevation, above high water. The maadow lands are never *rer flowed by high water, except by storm tides, which are of rare Occurrence. The abundance of game and fi»h in the vicinity has made the Island far years a favorite resort of *p<wtamen. • The inland boy, known as Ludlam Bay, affords »j»v still water bulbing, kaving a gently shelving there, and also safe yachting, aud abounds in ft*h, oysters, crab*, clams, Ac. One portion of it b only 1200 feet from the sea beach, so that on one aide surt bathing can be had. and upoc the other side still-water bathing. The site selected for See lata City w on the northern half of ths Island | extending to the centre and then south wardly. It will have a frontage on the at lan tic of three rrdlaa, and extend Inland to Ludlam Bay and the Thoroughfare, - along which fa is practicable, and it is proposed In Icy out and construct a carriage drive for the distance of more than two milea. It is proposed to protect the City from high tide, by a substantial sea wall on the two sidce moat exposed, and by em bask ment* on tha remaining tides, which can be done at a moderate expense, considering the economical ana other advantages. Absolute security will thus be obtain ed against encroachments by the aeo, that nave occasioned much damage at (hpe Mav, Atlantic Citv, Monmocth Beach. Manhattan Beach, and other places. No other seaside resort at the prevent time, has the protection that W proposed for this place. The Island is uninhabited) tfcera being no houses on it except two Government Stations, and no cess pools | the way is clear far carrying into opera taon a thorough system of sanitary regulation ; such as yon propose under the supervision of on efficient and •Xpert eooed sanitary engineer. The Island can be vety am fly connected with the West Jersey R. V, by a short branch road from 44 to 5 miles In length, there being but a narrow Thoroughfare to crews with a bridge. A Govern mm l Light -house should ha eotsblbhed on this Island, as numerous wrecks here occurred on it, and by a little expense on the part of govern ment in the construction of pet ties, two excel lent harbors can be established on the north and south ends of the Island, at <Vrson'» and Towwvnd's » Inlets, which would become important commercial points by connection with m l* rood, sod a sals refuge far veasih In storms The plan upon which yon propose to lay out the Of* b calculated le sub serve the purposes of ronrewfanca, health aud beauty. With pro)Mr railroad faefbtfaa, and tou offered at a raoscnabls price, f do not nee why this place should not bo some a* great a resort as Allantl* Oltv, b* reason of its proximity to Fhiladel pbia. and the cosfsuw of the beach.
